Hailing from America’s mitten state (Michigan) -

Bass trombonist Matt Evans received his Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2013 on the highest awarded Dean’s Merit Scholarship. During his time at Oberlin, he studied under James DeSano, retired Principal Trombone of the Cleveland Orchestra. Matt continued on to earn his Master of Music on a full ride merit scholarship from Carnegie Mellon University in 2015. He was a student of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Murray Crewe (deceased), bass trombonist, and Craig Knox, tuba. 

Matt started his professional career in 2015 as a freelance musician in Los Angeles. He enjoys playing in a broad range of musical styles, including symphony orchestra, chamber, contemporary, commercial, Jazz, musical theatre, television, and studio work, among others. In addition to bass trombone, Matt plays tenor trombone, euphonium, and tuba.

Teaching

As an impassioned and driven educator, I am on faculty at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, the Santa Monica Academy of Music, and additionally hold a substitute teaching position with the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) program. I also teach lessons through my private studio.
